I pledge allegiance to Grover Norquist and all the stupidity for which he stands!

Senator Cornyn is not alone. Most of the Republicans in the Senate and the House of Representatives have signed Grover Norquist’s no new taxes pledge. To the Republicans, their allegiance to Grover Norquist is important, perhaps even more important than doing what’s right for our Country. Our Country’s debt situation is dire. Republicans refuse to take the logical step and add tax revenue as part of the solution to an extraordinary public debt problem created by excessive Bush tax cuts for the richest Americans and the Bush wars. Their reluctance to think logically is shaped by two things:

  1. Their pledge to Grover Norquist
  2. Stupid Tea Party thinking

There has been a time or two in my life when my budget was uncomfortable. My approach was simple. I cut back on discretionary spending and found some part time work to pay off some debt. I cut spending and raised revenue. It’s simple. Senator Cornyn opposes any new net revenue, including:

  1. Allowing the Bush Tax cuts to expire. They were passed at a time when their was a budget surplus, before 10 years of war in Afghanistan and Iraq, and they were passed with an expiration date. Senator Cornyn’s hands are tied by Grover Norquist.
  2. Reducing tax breaks for oil companies. Does Senator Cornyn really believe that oil companies will quit searching for oil is we don’t subsidize their efforts with tax dolllars? Just stupid thinking.
  3. Reducing tax breaks on corporate jets or the mortgage deduction for luxury yachts? Come on Senator Cornyn…just give us a little revenue to help our Country out of this mess that Republicans got us in to. Ten years of war and Senator Cornyn voted previously to increase the debt ceiling to pay for it, and now no new revenues to help pay for it.
Why does Senator Cornyn fear this man and how did he gain so much power?
