According to the Dallas Morning News, Senator Cornyn has called for Congressman Weiner’s resignation.
“It strikes me that the apology was not enough. I agree with Eric Cantor” – the House majority leader – “that Rep. Weiner should resign his seat. It’s obvious he lied about his involvement,” Cornyn said this afternoon.
“I just think the public’s esteem for Congress is at a historic low already,” said Cornyn, who leads theĀ Republican senatorial campaign, “and that sort of unfortunate conduct does nothing but reap more public outrage and low esteem for Congress.”
It’s not that I strongly disagree with the Senator’s point of view, but I do disagree with Senator Cornyn’s hypocrisy. After Senator David Vitter admitted to using the Washington DC prostitution service of Madam Palfrey in July of 2007, Senator Cornyn donated $10,000 to Senator Vitter and then as NRSC chair, directed another $42,000 to Senator Vitter’s reelection campaign.
Senator Vitter admitted to a crime. Congressman Weiner admitted to stupidity.
