John Cornyn Votes No on Financial Reform – Votes Yes to Bailout BP

Senator John Cornyn

Always Happy to Vote No on Reform

I issued the following statement tonight after the U.S. Senate passed the financial regulatory bill by a vote of 59-39. I voted “No. “This bill fails to end “too big to fail,” guarantees future taxpayer bailouts for large financial firms, and does nothing to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, who were at the center of the housing and financial crisis. The Senate today imposed more regulations and red tape, which punishes small business owners and community bankers who had little or nothing to do with the economic crisis. No wonder Wall Street firms, including Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, support the bill while community banks, credit unions, and other small businesses vehemently oppose it.

Senator Cornyn is using his diversion tactic. He’s good at it. No, he’s great at it. He’s trying to make us think he’s on our side. We know better. He’s always on the side of big business, corporate America, and the wealthy. The Republicans voted NO again! Senator Cornyn always makes excuses by dragging in the trivia of legislation and telling us he can’t support the bill. Maybe the bill isn’t broad enough, but Senator Cornyn…is the answer to do nothing! Is that the way to go?

I think the last time Senator Cornyn voted yes on any legislation of importance was when he voted for President Bush’s big bank bailout.  This week he also voted no on legislation to increase BP’s liability for the oil spill that is destroying our wetlands and beaches. Risky considering the spill is growing so large that it might hit Texas beaches. Senator Cornyn doesn’t care…drill baby drill!

Just keep voting no Senator. Texans will get our chance in 2014.
