Senator Cornyn has established himself a spokesperson for the Republican Party. He’s influential. He’s worked himself to the top of the heap…unfortunately it’s the top of a smelly mess. Republicans have positioned themselves to be losers. They are ignoring the change in demographics in the United States. Young people are under employed, more liberal, more compassionate, more tolerant, more green, and don’t have investment accounts in need of tax breaks. They do need jobs, education, and health care…something the Republican Party will never provide for them.
Republicans appeal to the wealthy, Bible Belt Christians, and fear mongering conspiracy theorists. The Republican Party has overlooked the fact that these groups are diminishing in number. They bully around like they have a broad constituency ready to return them to power. In reality, their constituency is one whose main goal is to see President Obama fail. That’s bad for the United States. My guess is that many of these people, the Tea Party activists and the Birthers, gave little to the Republican Party in 2008 and many probably didn’t even vote. Republicans are playing to a base that is despised by many middle income working class Americans. Their base is the Wall Street Wealthy, evangelicals worried more about abortion and gay marriage than their own self interest, and radical fringe elements with a big NO strategy. Their objective seems to be doing whatever it takes to make President Obama and the Country look bad. Senator Arlen Specter comments on Republican obstructionism:
Sen. Arlen Specter D-Pa. went off on his former party on Fox News Sunday morning. A Republican until April of this year, Specter said theres no working with the GOP.”On the Republican side, it is no, no, no. A party of obstructionism,” he said. “You have responsible Republicans who had been in the Senate like Howard Baker, Bob Dole, and Bill Frist who say Republicans ought to cooperate. Well, theyre not cooperating.”
