So here we are in the middle of one of the most contentious political debates in our history, there are 600 or so amendments to consider to the health care bill, and Senator Cornyn waste the Senate’s time with a childish – stupid – amendment that has absolutely no meaningful benefit to the American taxpayer and one that he admits had no chance of passing.
President Obama and Congressional Democrats have consistently maintained that Americans who like the coverage they currently have will be able to keep it under any new health care legislation. But that’s just not the case.
My colleagues across the aisle know it. Since they are so insistent on forcing so many Americans onto government run health care, I offered an amendment that would require Members of the Congress to enroll in the Medicaid program should this legislation become law. Not surprisingly, it was overwhelmingly rejected.
We, the taxpayers, pay the Senator $174,ooo a year with a generous benefit package that includes government health care. There’s plenty of work to do in Washington Senator. It’s not your high school student council, it’s the United States Senate. Please behave like a statesman and not a frat kid.
