Senator Cornyn Votes to Raise Taxes on Working Texans

Senator Cornyn sides with the One Percent

In voting to protect millionaires and billionaires from the slightest tax increase, Senator Cornyn effectively voted to raise taxes on hard working Texans. He is a disgrace to our State. He’s a party line political hack who does nothing in the best interest of Texans who fall within the 99%.

Senator Harry Reid:

“Republicans spent this week trying to convince us that they support middle-class tax cuts, but tonight a majority of Senate Republicans voted against their own bill -– calling into question whether they support middle-class tax cuts at all,”
said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).

“I was encouraged to see one Republican join Democrats in asking millionaires to pay their fair share,” Reid said. “But because every other Republican continues to insist on protecting millionaires, middle class families could face a $1,000 tax increase next year.”

President Obama:

“Tonight, Senate Republicans chose to raise taxes on nearly 160 million hardworking Americans because they refused to ask a few hundred thousand millionaires and billionaires to pay their fair share,” he said. “That is unacceptable. It makes absolutely no sense to raise taxes on the middle class at a time when so many are still trying to get back on their feet.”

We need to fire Senator Cornyn in 2014!

Cornyn Playing Softball with Lobbyist

Senator Cornyn seems to be proud of the video below as he sent it out in his Lone Star not-so-weekly newsletter. Watch it while keeping these points in mind.

The interview is a setup! What a bunch of softball questions catering to the Senator. The interviewer couldn’t have made Senator Cornyn more comfortable if he had massaged the Senators back while asking the questions.

The Heritage Foundation is a conservative think tank and and is considered to be one of the most influential conservative research organizations in the United States. Senator Cornyn wasn’t speaking to his constituents but to lobbyists. You and I elected Senator Cornyn to represent Texans, not Washington insiders. Senator Cornyn is a master at ducking hard questions.

Senator Cornyn’s Balance Budget Amendment is a political hoax. Republican’s don’t want to balance the budget, they want to destroy the social programs like the school lunch program, aid to children, social security, medicaid, medicare. Congress can balance the budget without a balanced budget amendment if they had a Balanced Budget Agenda. They don’t. Their agenda is to protect the rich, the military industrial complex, and big business. Senator Cornyn want to cap spending without raising taxes…forever. A balanced budget amendment with a spending cap and no tax increases, even for the rich, mean they have an excuse to gut programs essential to middle class Americans, the elderly, the disabled, and children.

Senator Cornyn’s trying to look busy while doing nothing. A balanced budget amendment has to be ratified by 38 states. It will take years for approval, if it’s ever approved. So is Senator Cornyn busy working for Texans? No, he stalling…wasting time blustering about the President campaigning while the Senator yaps his mouth and does nothing about the budget or jobs. Senator Cornyn hasn’t spent anytime on serious national issues since he was elected. He spends his time on party politics…so who is not interested in governing? Do you really want a party hack representing Texas?

Senator Cornyn is obsessed with the Fast and Furious gun walking operation. So perhaps mistakes were made by the Justice department. It’s been discussed for months. It’s not Iran Contra or Nixon’s dirty tricks or Clinton’s oval office sex. It was a honest plan stem the flow of illegal firearms trafficking into Mexico that went south…sort of like the Bush wars. The Senator is looking for his pound of flesh out of the administration. I’m sorry that Brian Terry lost his life. I’m sorry for his family. I’m sorry for the thousands of Americans that were killed by George Bush’s wars. But we learn from our mistakes and move on. I think the ATF recognizes that so it’s time to put Fast and Furious behind us.

When I wake up in the morning and I don’t think about Fast and Furious when I read the headlines. I don’t think most Texans do either. I see Texans out of work, school budget’s gutted, people loosing their homes, people without health insurance, and Americans dying in a useless war that costing the tax payers billions.  Senator Cornyn ignores that…his focus is on Fast and Furious.

Texas Deserves Better!

Did You See Senator Cornyn’s Jobs Survey for Dummies?

John Cornyn's Job Survey for Dummies

Hey dummy…please choose from one of my talking points?

I don’t know who created Senator Cornyn’s job survey which was published in his not-so-weekly Lone Star Weekly e-newsletter. If you participated in the survey and answered anything but other, you gave the Senator a talking point that he will use to enrich the rich.  Let’s consider the options.

Fewer Government Regulations: What does fewer government regulations do for you? Very little unless you are a multi-national corporation. Senator Cornyn’s agenda is to turn the US into China…or India, Indonesia, Malaysia. If the Republicans have their way they will gut EPA regulations, clean air regulations, labor regulations including workplace safety regulations like OSHA. Why? Because big corporations  want to compete with third world countries by becoming like them.

Forget clean air, ground polutions, job safety, and decent wages. If big oil doesn’t have to worry about clean air emissions then they can continue to use old technology refineries, pollute our air and pocket more money. If the construction and manufacturing companies can produce goods without OSHA regulations, they can make more profits. If the Republicans can bust the unions, the wages will be lower and and corporations can make more profits. Fewer government regulations have nothing to do with your tags or taxes, it has to do with making the rich richer and that’s Senator Cornyn’s agenda.

Not raising taxes on the job creators: An honest phrasing of this answer should be protecting the current low tax rates for the super rich. They’re lower now than under Reagan. If you think that not raising taxes on the super rich will create jobs then you’re a dummy. We haven’t raised taxes on the rich since the Bush tax cuts a decade ago and we still have unemployment at nine percent. Think about it…not raising taxes on the rich hasn’t done us any good so let’s give raising taxes on the rich a try and lower our federal deficit.

Reducing our National Debt: The good Senator is slipping it to you again. He doesn’t want to reduce the National Debt. If Senator Cornyn wanted to reduce the National Debt, he would support raising taxes on the super rich. No, what he wants to do is strip of us a Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. He advocates for a balance budget amendment, but if you read between the lines he idea of a balanced budget amendment has exceptions for all the good stuff that’s important to him like big defense budgets. When you or I get into a budget crunch we reduce spending and get a part time job to increase our revenue. We may even borrow a little more to get us through the crunch. Senator Cornyn’s approach, cut programs for the poor and disabled.

Senator Cornyn’s survey is designed to get you to agree with him without thinking. Senator Cornyn is a great Senator for the big business and the rich. If you’re a working Texan, he’s screwing you every chance he gets. Question his answers…if you can get answers.

Senator Cornyn votes against helping Teachers and Firefighters

Senator John Cornyn sucking up to Kentucky's Mitch McConnellIt’s really amazing. John Cornyn and the Republicans are against any kind of jobs bill, including the pared down version that they refused to even consider yesterday.  Thursday’s $35 billion measure combined $30 billion for state and local governments to hire teachers and other school workers with $5 billion to help pay the salaries of police officers, firefighters and other first responders. The White House says the measure would “support” almost 400,000 education jobs for one year. Republicans call that a temporary “sugar high” for the economy and say it’s a taxpayer-funded bailout of state and local governments.

“Protecting millionaires and defeating President Obama are more important to my Republican colleagues than creating jobs and getting our economy back on track,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said.

Job Creators Foiled by High Taxes and Regulations

The Republican line on the wealthy is that they’re not just rich, they are job creators and therefore deserve a break on taxes, the environment, and government regulations. (Think Occupational Health and Safety regulations, OSHA, pollution regulations, air emissions, and labor laws.)

Bill Maher has some thoughts that might help put the Republican line in perspective…they’re pampering their rich cronies at the expense of the rest of us.

Republicans Out to Kill the American Dream

Don't Let Senator Cornyn and Rick Perry Kill the American DreamSenator Cornyn and his fellow Republicans are out to kill the American Dream for everyone but their rich cronies on Wall Street. While protecting extraordinarily low tax rates for corporations, millionaires and billionaires, they are using budget deficits as an excuse to slash programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Some Texas Republicans want the states to manage Medicare. Can you imagine turning your Medicare over to the likes of Rick Perry, governor of a state with the highest number of uninsured in the country? Republicans are on a mission of power to enrich the rich and pull the rug out from under the rest of us.

Don’t let Republicans like Senator John Cornyn and Governor Rick Perry kill the American Dream.

S&P doesn’t believe Republicans have the will to let Bush Tax Cuts expire.

Republican's won't budge on Bush Tax Cuts to help the country.A very interesting line in S&P’s full report (.pdf) wherein it downgraded the sovereign debt of the US from AAA to AA+.

Compared with previous projections, our revised base case scenario now assumes that the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, due to expire by the end of 2012, remain in place. We have changed our assumption on this because the majority of Republicans in Congress continue to resist any measure that would raise revenues, a position we believe Congress reinforced by passing the act.

Thanks Tea Party Republicans!

Thanks Tea Party

It’s time to put the redneck ideology aside and solve America’s debt problem. The Republican attempt to win the Whitehouse in 2012 by destroying the US economy is shameful. Wake up Republicans! It’s time to be statesmen.
